Note from the editor:

Well here we go again. Issue #2! It looks as if it will come together alright.
I could not put as much into it as I thought I could at first this month due
to the closing of RabbitLand II (My BBS) and all the work that I had to do to
get all of my responsibilities transferred over. BTW if you want your IGM
hatched over the LORD_FDN you still can send it to bat@airmail.net and it
will be hatched the same day.

I would like to thank Seth Able Robinson for releasing the Source code for
Baracks House. This should bring a new batch of authors to come in and give
back some new life in Lord 1. (Yes I am going to start calling it lord one
since Lord 2 is SO Close.)

*** 2 ***
A word from Seth Able

LIAN>I was hoping to do one more interview with you then I will leave you
LIAN>alone.

LIAN>1) How is the work progressing on Lord2:New World Order?

Great!! I feel a beta copy is SO close to being ready.. just a few
odds and ends I need to take care of.

LIAN>2) Where did you get the names for all the NPC's in Lord? There
LIAN>is a lot of speculation on this and it would be great if it was all
LIAN>cleared up.

Probably more than half just came to me from weird places in the
mind, the rest are from movies and books. It's true, I'm a huge
David Eddings fan.

LIAN>3) Who is Jenny Garth to you? There has been roomers that go from one
LIAN>end to the other. What I mean by this is from you have a thing with a
LIAN>girl in a book to you have a crush on the cast of 90210. :)

Heh, naw, I just try to people in my games that I like.. You'll find
references to many more than just her, including: Bob Newhart, Bjork,
Laura Sangiacomo, John Henson and Conan O'brian!!

LIAN>4) I do not know if you can answer this one but is Olivia going to
LIAN>make a come back in L2?

Yes she is. This will not be in the 1st beta, though.

LIAN>5) What was the deciding factor in your release of the Source Code
LIAN>for Baraks house? ( Although this is still a roomer that you have
LIAN>done this as I could not find it on your site)

I should have done it a long time ago.. Although there are MANY helpful
routines that will allow other door programmers to do stuff they otherwise
couldn't.. (like deciphering ` codes, adding commas to #'s etc) its my
contribution to the pascal world. :>

You can find it by clicking on our new 'Programming Area', then "how to
make an IGM"

LIAN>6) Is there anything you would like to say to the thousand's of
LIAN>people that follow your every move? (Please leave out the Goats:) )

It isn't fair that dogs are touted as "Man's best friends" - because
think about it... Goat's can offer so much MORE than a dog!!! They
are trainable too.

-Seth

Della's Critic Corner

LIAN> This was going to be a critic's corner like S&E, but time is getting
tight with both the people that I had wanted to do this area. So I am hoping
that next month , If I can get them in line together it will be a different
name. But as many of you know Della is a Master at finding bug's in IGM's
and this month she has chose to review the Wheel by Ken Weitzel.

Della> They've invented the wheel!! LORD warriors now have the opportunity
to play their very own Wheel Of Fortune. Ken Weitzel programs some
of the very best IGMs for LORD. LWHEEL10.ZIP is one of the best of
the best! Lord's Wheel is challenging. The graphics are spectacular.
The rewards are just right. Vanna didn't live when dragons were a
threat to the realm. Ken replaced her with many familiar names from
the LORD world. Do you see yourself or someone you know turning letters?

I would have said that it was impossible to make Wheel of Fortune fit

the LORD motif. I would have been wrong! Lord's Wheel seamlessly
integrates into the game. The answers relate to LORD although those
answers aren't glaringly obvious. However, no one leaves without a
consolation prize. If players can't solve the puzzle, they still
give a charming performance...and get a charm point for their efforts.
If players do solve the puzzle correctly, they will receive either
gold, skill, experience or hitpoints. The rewards are high enough to
justify the brain strain, but not high enough to skew the game.

As always, this IGM from Ken Weitzel is $3. Isn't it time that your
LORD game had a wheel?

John Tucker - Author of Fat Man's Misery

I started working on FMM 2.0 but then got involved with a project called
Top Cop! That game is out and has some more work to go, but am a bit
frustrated and bored with it. I've been working over a year on it and
never meant to spend that much time on it. So, I have taken a hiatus
from working on that. It runs ok. There are some problems, but mostly
with specific system setups. Ah well.

Am now working on a project that is strictly an IBBS game. No local
play really. What I mean is that you really can't do anything to anyone
on your BBS, only do things that will help or hurt your side.
It is called CREATOR! I've just started on it and of course, the name
could change. It's quite intricate and detailed and may not fly, but I
will keep working on it. NO ONE has seen it or heard of it. You are
the first. I need to get some more sections done before I let some
people look at it. It may be too hard, but the concept of the game will
allow a multitude of professions. The user can choose which profession
they like best and work with that. There is one basic profession that
all users will have access but do not need to perform. Although this
one profession is the main part of the game.

I know I am being vague. Just don't want to give away ideas you know.
Especially since it will take awhile to get to beta.

Someday, I will get back to FMM2.0 It is quite an upgrade. I received
lots of registrations for it, but not too many lately. People seemed
to like FMM. It has no cheats and limits amounts of gold and gems. It
was always and will always be a LORD enhancement, not a LORD cheat or
take away from the game of LORD.

Top Cop! web page is http://www.thuntek.net/topcop/topcop.htm

I have a friend working on a new web page and I like it a lot better.
It is located at: http://www.flash.net/~itcmbc/topcop/topcop.htm
though this one is not functional.

Thanks for your time and interest.

Lloyd Hannesson

Well it's not a full article but...

I'm currently setting up a test BBS for my IGMs. I'll be releasing an
updated version of both The Warrior's Graveyard, and Felicitys Temple
that will fix a couple of known bugs that weren't found by my testers.
I'm also looking at a few more ideas that were submitted to me by fans of
my IGMs. So hopefully in the next few months I'll be able to rerelease my
IGMs, hopefully with a lot more content.

For more info on the release you can always read about it in this
newsletter, or check out the Tech'n IGM Homepage at
http://www.escape.ca/~lloyd/tech.

Thanx :)

Korombos - Author of IGMX and KDrive

Well, currently, KDrive is being ported to other languages like C/C++ and
Delphi allowing the Kit Addition KLord to be ported as well. KDrive with KA
KLord allows authors to write Lord IGMs without worrying about com routines
and such. If you use the KLord Lord routines it error checks, updates the
player files as needed and offers multi-node capability to your IGMs. So far
KDrive has been tested (using the pascal TP 7.xx version - the one on the
scene now) OS/2, DOS, Win311, WinNt, Win95, and Linux.

IGMX is still very stable and active. I still receive e-mail (and an
occasional net mail) thanking me for the program. IGMX is free of course,

excellent product support, and very configurable. On a side note, IGMX can
be used in other games that use the 3rdparty.dat file for other places. IGMX
has NO limit to the IGMs it will support. It will keep logs of your IGMs
usage, and has 2 built in displays for your IGMs like the top 10 IGMs used,
and the total number of uses for each IGM. The most stable extender of it's
kind.

Of course there is IGMH, or Haunted IGM. You wander around a house full of
mazes trying to find a ghost. But beware, each ghost has a different gift,
and if the ghost is in a bad mood, you just might get something you don't
really want. Of course, you might never find a ghost either. :) The sysop
can create their very own mazes, and assign different things to each ghost.
And did I mention it cost absolutely NOTHING!

Well, I've been rather busy, but here is a little about me. I program
professionally (for some major companies). I also act as CIS for some other
companies on a need to know basis. That is when the company needs to know
something. I program at home on my own projects as a hobby. I've been
programming for BBSes only about 4 years now, but I've been programming in
different sorts for about 20 years. I first started with my first computer a
TRaSh 80 model I level I computer, and been doing it ever since. I have even
programmed for the USN.

Tom Moore - Author of ThomasVille

I am not working on any IGM's at this time however Della has hinted toward
wanting me to work on another soon. I will probably do this but most likely
will not have the time to do so for at least a month or two.

My current projects are in the development of windows applications and I am
currently using Delphi to do this.

My first application that I am working on is a log program for police
officers to keep a personal log of any citations that they issue and the
result of those citations should they go to court. This is in part at my
attempt to learn to use the built in Database features in Delphi, and it has
proven to be far more powerful than I had expected it would be.

After completing this, I will need to start on an application for a local
business (which is the reason that I looked toward Delphi for windows
development) which should take me at least a couple of months to draw near
completion (beta states). Once I have reached a point in this project that
is close to completion I *Should* be able to return to programing for play
again, which would mean another IGM.

I have been really appreciative of the response that I have gotten from the
sysops using ThomasVille and would like to write another IGM with a totally
different theme, and as much unique as possible. This of course would go
without saying that it would have to have the ease of installation that
ThomasVille does, and hopefully I will be able to brainstorm a few good
twist to throw into it as well.

Thanks again to you for taking the time to write this newsletter and to all
the users of ThomasVille for their support!

All the best,
Tom Moore

Until 26 Apr 1997 I won't be updating my software. However, I will
still process requests, read mail, and use the computer. Why am I
stopping the programming? My life has gotten a lot more hectic. The
school musical is going on right now and that takes about 4 hours a day
from my life, plus the 6 at school then the rest is homework or
composing (which is what I plan on going into in college so that's why
it gets priority) or just taking some time to be a teen. For those that
don't know I'm only 16 and have just gotten my license. I have no other
job other than the small consulting I do for friends and references. If
you want to know any more about me check the README file in LORD
Suburbia v1.6e or 1.7beta.

The latest version of LORD Suburbia is v1.7beta and is available only to
beta testers. IF you're interested in testing Suburbia or other
software, drop me a line at sorcerer@geocities.com or on my BBS
810-553-2644.

The latest version of The Apothecary and Grizelda's House is 1.72.
No projects on the board other than one bout of programming I"ve gotta
do for a chem project (can't get outta this one) and another working
with touch sensor technologies which should prove interesting (also for
another groups chem project, but I'll get some extra $$$ for this one...
ehe). The 26th is a week after the musical and the date of the MSBOA
State Band/Orchestra Festival and is the point where my life will slow
down for a bit so that's why I've put off programming until then.
Have fun all and I'll be back in the next issue boring you with my life
again.:)

Okay, what I'm working on -- well, it hasn't really changed a whole
lot from the last newsletter. I have just added more to my plate! :)

       o Caves Of Despair

There *will* be another version of Caves Of Despair. When it will
be is another issue entirely! :) I still have complete plans on
adding the cult subsection, but it's a matter of time vs plans.

COD has been put on the back burner for the moment while I do some
reworking of my communications routines. I have decided (think this
was in the last newsletter too) to try and converge my comm routines
into one unit so that I can keep track of it a little better.
Sounds like a nice idea, but WOW, what a job!!!

Once that has been completed, I intend to get the cult section of
COD up and running into beta form at least. Depending on my time,
I'm hoping to start into that by next weekend.

o Futuristic Counterpart to Caves Of Despair

I am still planning to create a futuristic counterpart to the
Caves Of Despair IGM, however, at this time, it's been put a ways on
the back burner for other things. The way it's looking, this one
may not see the light of day for quite awhile. Since for the most
part I have the bulk of the code already written, I don't for see
too many problems in making the IGM somewhat quickly, so it may just
pop out one day after I've had a good few solid coding hours.

       o New Door Game

Yup, I've got the groundwork for a brand new door game that looks
like it has a fair amount of potential. I have most of the data
structures worked out, and will be laying the foundation routines
pretty soon. Once that is done, a preliminary announcement on the
game will probably be made available (as well as a call for beta
         testers).

       o World-Wide InterBBS LORD Game

I have recently decided to start up a world-wide IBBS LORD game. I
plan to offer at least 2 methods for carrying this game. Direct
Fido style mailer to my system, and via TransX email encoding. I
will also be asking a local person to join who has his own ftp
server, and with any luck the game will be made available via ftp as
         well.

I have not yet decided whether to use LORDNET or INTERLORD, but I
will likely be making that determination shortly and the game will
begin. I currently have a couple sites interested in joining the
game, and I don't see problems in getting plenty more. Since I have
my copy of TransX commercially registered, I can take on quite a
number of nodes myself, making the game as fast and direct as
possible. The beauty part is that nobody will be paying long
distance phone charges for this league, so updates will be sent
         around immediately.
